Beyond the Baseline

Over the past two weeks, a group of Year 9 and Year 10 students have taken part in the Youth Sport Trust Beyond the Baseline Tennis Leadership Programme, working alongside Paralympian Antony Cotterill to develop their leadership skills, confidence and personal attributes.
Throughout the programme, students have developed their knowledge and understanding of fundamental tennis skills, before putting this into practice by planning and leading activities for their peers. They have been challenged to communicate effectively, demonstrate organisation, adapt activities to different needs and make decisions as leaders.
Working with Antony has provided students with an inspiring opportunity to learn from an elite athlete and develop important skills that extend beyond the sports hall and tennis court. The programme has encouraged students to take responsibility, show initiative and understand the qualities required to be an effective leader.
The next challenge for our students is to put their leadership skills into action across the wider Alsop community. They will have opportunities to support and lead extracurricular activities, helping to provide positive sporting experiences for other students and becoming role models within our school.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, commitment and leadership shown by the group so far and look forward to seeing how they continue to develop and make a positive contribution to our school community.
Well done to all of our sport leaders!
